The Global Steel Wire Group has evolved to become a European leader in special steels production with over 140 years of experience in the sector for highly demanding sectors with an extensive range of dimensions and qualities of wire rod and wire.

The company is part of the CELSA Group, a group founded in 1967 in Castellbisbal (Barcelona) with the start-up of its first rolling mill.

The first electric furnace
+

A decade later, in 1977, as a result of our constant commitment to innovation, the first electric melting furnace was installed in Sant Andreu de la Barca, Barcelona.

From then on, the company stopped processing products for third parties and started to manufacture steel autonomously, allowing it to increase its production and market share.

Over the years, CELSA has become a national steel industry leader.
In the late 1980s and during the 1990s, we incorporated three companies into the group:
Torras Herrería y Construcciones, Altos Hornos de Cataluña and Nueva Montaña Quijano, which is now Global Steel Wire. In addition to these acquisitions, there are also two other leading companies in the sector: Industrias del Besós and Nervacero.

Later, as part of a strategy of product and market diversification, several wire drawing mills were incorporated: Tycsa PSC and Trefilerías Moreda in 1991, and Riviere in 1999. All of them now belong to Grupo Global Steel Wire.

Group internationalisation
+

At the turn of the millennium, the company’s international expansion began with the creation of CELSA Steel UK in Cardiff, UK, and CELSA Huta in Ostroweic, Poland. The success of both operations is the trigger for a globalisation process that is beginning to take shape and consolidate.

CELSA is extending its international outreach by creating CELSA Nordic, made up of several processing companies located in various northern European countries, and CELSA France, located in Bayonne. Not only that, a year later, we expanded our presence in the UK and Ireland with the acquisition of BRC, ROM Group and Express Reinforcements.
