Environment and Energy
The protection and improvement of the environment is essential to us. Every day, we try to improve our processes and facilities by establishing controls, seeking new applications for reusing or recovering our waste and investing in technological improvements that benefit the environment. Our plant stands out for its recycling capacity.
The Global Steel Wire Group aspires to excellence in environmental management. We have implemented the most demanding environmental management systems such as the European EMAS Regulation and we participate in the World Steel Association’s Climate Action Programme.
At the Global Steel Wire Group we make an outstanding contribution to the preservation of the environment.

Environmental Policy
Global Steel Wire has set itself the objective of protecting and improving the environment within its activities of manufacturing and marketing high-end wire rod.
Both the steel and the production process used in GSW for its manufacture stand out for their ecological values and recycling capacity compared to other products and technologies.
1. Efficient and responsible use of natural resources and energy.
2. Applying continuous improvement and pollution prevention in the management of processes, including setting and periodically reviewing environmental objectives and targets.
3. Developing a production system that respects the environment and complies with the legal obligations and voluntary commitments and agreements signed by GSW, related to its environmental aspects.
4. Promote the circularity of our by-products, prioritizing recovery and recycling over other waste management methods, with the aim of sending zero waste to landfill.
5. Consider and minimise the impact of environmental aspects from the design stage of equipment and installations by using the best technologies available and affordable to the company.
6. Developing the environmental commitment of everyone involved in our business including management, employees, contractors, customers and suppliers, making information and training an essential tool.
7. Open and transparent communication across all stakeholders with special emphasis on integration into the urban environment.

Efficient water management
Global Steel Wire’s most important industrial processes are carried out at high temperatures. This fact implies the need to use water to ensure the cooling of both the facilities and the manufactured product.
At Global Steel Wire we are fully committed to the efficient use of this valuable natural resource.
• Use of semi-closed cooling circuits that allow the continuous reuse of most of the water in the process.
• Implementing rainwater collection and reuse systems.
• Ensuring the quality of the reused water.
• Commissioning completely closed cooling systems where circuit water cooling is carried out by means of air coolers and without the option of evaporation losses.

New opportunities for waste
For Global Steel Wire, waste management is an opportunity and a clear sign of commitment to the circular economy. All GSW’s activities are carried out in accordance with this model. Global Steel Wire carries out various actions to promote a more sustainable and positive environmental development:
• Global Steel Wire’s products are eternally recyclable due to the properties of steel. This allows all manufactured products to be put back into the life cycle without the need to overexploit natural resources.
• Valorisation and use of the waste generated during the steelmaking process. These materials generated are considered co-products due to their high intrinsic value. They have a high capacity to be used as secondary raw material for processes such as road construction or for reuse in the process of obtaining steel.
